Filming in Aberdeen
Manufacturing and agriculture with a regional university. Process and facility films are the typical reason for a shoot day.
Aberdeen is small enough that staging is never the problem — a compact early-twentieth-century downtown with an intact courthouse and theatre, and Northern State University's brick campus a few minutes from it.

The subject matter here is agricultural and industrial: grain, beef and dairy operations, and the processing facilities that carry the process and facility work. Outside the city, prairie pothole country spreads across a glacial plain scattered with wetlands — one of the densest waterfowl-breeding regions on the continent, and extraordinary during spring and autumn migration at Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge thirty minutes northeast. Wylie Park's long-running Storybook Land is unlike any other location on this map. Flat terrain opens the sky horizon to horizon and gives long summer evenings. South Dakota has no statewide permit, so Aberdeen and Brown County govern local streets and public property, while state parks and the federal refuges carry their own conditions around wildlife.
Practical regional settings support the work. Processing plants and agricultural facilities carry much of the industrial subject matter. Outside the city, prairie pothole country spreads across a glacial plain dotted with small wetlands and one of the continent’s densest waterfowl-breeding regions. Wylie Park and Storybook Land add a long-running children’s attraction unlike any other location in the city group.
Late May through September is the practical exterior season. Aberdeen has a northern-plains climate with long cold winters, blowing snow, short warm summers, and conditions similar to Fargo farther north. Flat terrain opens the sky from horizon to horizon, bringing long summer evenings and sharply limited winter daylight. Weather, rather than movement inside the city, is the schedule’s main physical constraint.
South Dakota has no statewide film permit. Aberdeen and Brown County govern local streets and public property. The city itself is very small and quick to cross. Aberdeen Regional Airport provides regional connections, while Sioux Falls is about three hours southeast. Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge is about 30 minutes northeast. The Missouri River near Mobridge is roughly 90 minutes west. Fargo is about two and a half hours north. Aberdeen remains on Central Time.
As a video production company, we work across South Dakota, including Sioux Falls and Rapid City. If your shoot spans more than one city, we plan it as a single production rather than separate trips.
