Filming in Fargo
The state's business center, with healthcare, agtech, and a startup scene that punches above the city's size. Employer brand and founder films are the common brief.
Broadway's 1926 Fargo Theatre marquee is the most recognisable frame in North Dakota, and it stands on a walkable brick main street with a converted rail-era warehouse district behind it. North Dakota State University carries the agriculture and engineering research work.
More on filming in Fargo
Beyond the core, the Red River Valley opens onto the bed of a vanished glacial lake — some of the flattest ground on the continent, worked to the horizon in sugar beet, soy and wheat. Nothing blocks the light, which gives an unusually long and uninterrupted golden hour, and a June day here runs about sixteen hours. North Dakota has no central statewide permitting office, so Fargo and Cass County govern local ground while the state Tourism Division assists on scouting and contacts. Flat streets, a clear grid and short distances make the city straightforward to move a unit through, and Hector International is ten minutes northwest. Detroit Lakes' lake country is an hour east.
Settings specific to the Red River Valley support the work. Downtown’s warehouse district adds converted rail-era buildings, while Broadway is anchored by the Fargo Theatre and its 1926 neon marquee. Beyond the core, farmland runs to a flat horizon across the bed of a former glacial lake, giving agricultural films a setting that belongs to this region.
Late May through September is the main exterior window. Winters bring sustained sub-zero temperatures, severe wind chill, ground blizzards, and interstate closures. Summer is short, warm, and humid. Spring flooding on the Red River is a recurring annual condition. The flat horizon extends golden hour without interruption; June daylight lasts about 16 hours, while a December production has roughly eight and a half hours between sunrise and sunset.
North Dakota has no central statewide permitting office, so Fargo and Cass County govern local locations. The state Tourism Division assists with scouting and contacts but does not issue permits. Within the metro, flat streets, a clear grid, and short distances make movement straightforward outside winter weather. Hector International Airport is about ten minutes northwest of downtown. Detroit Lakes is about an hour east. Sheyenne National Grassland is roughly an hour southwest. Grand Forks lies about an hour north.
As a video production company, we work across North Dakota, including Bismarck and Grand Forks. If your shoot spans more than one city, we plan it as a single production rather than separate trips.
