Filming in Santa Fe
Adobe architecture and high-desert light give interviews a warmth you cannot light your way to indoors. Strong for arts institutions, hospitality, and healthcare.
Santa Fe is the highest state capital in the country, and at 7,200 feet the light arrives intense and very clean. The city's earth-toned adobe returns a warm bounce that softens faces without a single board — a rare thing to get for free. Canyon Road compresses adobe galleries into a walkable half mile, the Plaza has functioned as a working square for four centuries, and the Railyard answers both with steel, glass and open contemporary space when a brief should not look historic. Museum Hill and the piñon foothills extend a landscape sequence without leaving town. Permits run through the Santa Fe Film Office and are required on private property as well as public — $25 for a small production or $100 for a large one, plus $10 per shooting day. Summer days hold in the eighties.
More on filming in Santa Fe
Compact, distinctive settings define the city. Canyon Road compresses adobe galleries into a walkable half mile, while the Railyard adds steel, glass, and open contemporary space. Museum Hill and the nearby piñon foothills extend an institutional or landscape brief without leaving the city. These places give art, government, hospitality, and healthcare settings a specifically Santa Fe character.
At roughly 7,200 feet, Santa Fe is the country’s highest state capital. Summer days remain in the 80s, winters bring real snow, and monsoon afternoons recur from July through September. May through October is the main window. The altitude produces intense, clean light, while earth-toned adobe returns a warm natural bounce. Physical work immediately after arrival can also be affected by elevation.
Santa Fe requires a filming permit on both public and private property. The published fee is $25 for a small production or $100 for a large one, followed by $10 for each shooting day. The historic core is compact but its narrow streets and tight turns limit vehicle staging around the Plaza. Outside that core, movement is quick. Santa Fe Regional Airport is small, and Albuquerque’s airport sits about an hour south. Abiquiú and Ghost Ranch are about 90 minutes northwest. Bandelier National Monument is roughly 45 minutes west. Taos is about 90 minutes north.
As a video production company, we work across New Mexico, including Albuquerque and Las Cruces. If your shoot spans more than one city, we plan it as a single production rather than separate trips.
