Filming in Las Cruces
Agriculture, university, and border-region logistics. Practical for day-rate shoots covering southern New Mexico and West Texas in the same trip.
Southern desert light is the reason to shoot Las Cruces: hard, exceptionally clear, and holding colour on the Organ Mountains long after it has gone flat elsewhere. That serrated granite horizon east of town is the signature, and the valley supplies the counterpoint — pecan orchards running the Rio Grande in dead-straight green rows, unlike anything in the desert around them. Mesilla Plaza preserves a nineteenth-century square that still operates, and New Mexico State University puts a desert campus and working agricultural land in the same trip. Film Las Cruces is the state-recognised liaison for the city, Doña Ana County and Anthony, handling permits, scouting and location packages from one office. White Sands is an hour northeast; El Paso is forty-five minutes south, which puts a second metro inside the same day.
More on filming in Las Cruces
Institutional stories connect directly to the surrounding region. South of the city, Mesilla Plaza supplies a preserved nineteenth-century square that remains in use. Pecan orchards line the Rio Grande valley in exact green rows, while the Organ Mountains form a serrated granite horizon east of town. These settings give agricultural, university, and industrial films a specifically southern New Mexico look.
October through April is the comfortable exterior season. At about 3,900 feet, Las Cruces is the warmest New Mexico market in the group, with summer highs in the upper 90s and above 100°F. Rain is limited outside the late-summer monsoon. Southern desert light is hard and exceptionally clear; the Organ Mountains hold color late in the day, and the orchards provide a green counterpoint to the Chihuahuan desert flats immediately outside the city.
Film Las Cruces is the state-recognized liaison for the city, Doña Ana County, and the City of Anthony. Every production using Doña Ana County property goes through at least the Film Las Cruces permit process. The office also coordinates scouting and location packages. Las Cruces itself is small and quick to cross, with I-10 and I-25 meeting in the city. Commercial air traffic comes through El Paso International, about 50 minutes south. White Sands National Park is roughly an hour northeast. El Paso is about 45 minutes south, placing a second metropolitan market within the same production day.
As a video production company, we work across New Mexico, including Albuquerque and Santa Fe. If your shoot spans more than one city, we plan it as a single production rather than separate trips.
